Pre-K Students Step Into Confidence with New Shoes from FedEx Cares

At Van Winkle Early Childhood Center, pre-k scholars recently received an exciting and meaningful surprise—brand-new shoes—thanks to a generous initiative led by FedEx Cares. The effort, focused on supporting young learners and their families, brought smiles, confidence, and a sense of care to children just beginning their educational journey.

The event, held at Van Winkle on March 18, 2026, was filled with energy as volunteers helped scholars try on their new shoes. For many of the children, this was more than just a gift; it was an experience that made them feel valued and supported by their community. Teachers and staff noted how something as simple as a new pair of shoes can have a profound impact on a child’s self-esteem and readiness to learn.

FedEx Cares, the community engagement program of FedEx, regularly partners with schools and nonprofits to address essential needs and create opportunities. By providing shoes to pre-K scholars, the organization helps remove a small but significant barrier that some families face. Proper footwear is essential for young children, allowing them to participate comfortably in classroom activities, outdoor play, and physical development.

Volunteers played a key role in making the day memorable. They greeted scholars, assisted with sizing, and celebrated each child as they showed off their new shoes. Laughter and excitement filled the room as students walked, ran, and proudly displayed their new gear to friends and teachers, and even the Easter Bunny.
